Reaction Paper Assure Lesson Plan

Abstract
This paper is about the experience gained by creating another lesson plan using the “Assure Lesson Plan” method. While doing this lesson plan, we also had to assist the disabled students in class. There are many ways to create a lesson plan. The Assure Lesson Plan is one of the correct ways of creating a lesson plan and Professor Jacqui Cyrus of the University of Guam recommends using this method. This paper is a reaction to the experience gained while using the “Assure method” of creating a lesson plan in ED451: Audio Visual Education.
Introduction
According to Heinich, Molenda, Russell, Smaldino, (1999), “The ASSURE model is an ISD process that was modified to be used by teachers in the regular classroom.” With this method, teachers can generate a lesson plan that is direct and simple to understand so that other teachers would be able to replicate the same lesson. This method covers every aspect of what a lesson plan needs in order for it to be successful in the class. When I used this method for the first time, I kept thinking about how easy it was to use. Doing this lesson plan the second time was easier the second time because I already knew what to add to the lesson plan. Unfortunately, I didn’t get feedback on my first lesson plan due to technical difficulties. I hope I did well this time.
Method
Like I said earlier, doing this Lesson plan was not as hard as the first time I did it. I first had to come up with an idea to teach high school ESL students. This part was easy because I tutor ESL students as a side job. I already had lesson plans done in my head I just have to write them down. My idea for this lesson plan was to get my students to chat online in English. They are not allowed to use abbreviations such as, “OMG” or “LOL”. Then, they have to print out their conversation so that they can act it out in class. This way, the rest of the class can correct any mistakes. A more detailed explanation can be found on my lesson plan. After getting the idea, I had to make sure that I cater to the disabled people in my class. I figured that this task should be easy because it does not require too much research. The goal for this lesson plan is to encourage the freedom to express their feelings.
Outcome
I’ve done this lesson with some of my students a couple times and they seem to enjoy it and so do I. I sometimes I join in with there group chats but only when they invite me. I don’t like chatting on the internet most of the times because I hate typing. But I must admit that I am getting better at it. The acting portion of the lesson shows me the strengths and weakness of the students. When they acted it out in class, I can hear the improvement in the amount of vocabulary they use in there sentences. Although, their pronunciations still needs a little work. The pronunciation section of ESL is the hardest part to teach for me because it is very tedious but I will learn to be patient. From this assignment I was able the use number two on the NETS*T standards which is the “Planning and designing Learning Environments and Experience”. I feel this applies to this assignment because it is allowing me to map out a lesson.
Conclusion
In conclusion, doing this lesson plan was not only good practice for me, it also helps me improve on what I already do at my part time job. I will continue using this method because I feel that is very simple and simple to use. I do feel that should still keep an open mind on other lesson plans suggested to me, but so far this method is excellent.
